There are so many people out there that think everything on the internet is meant specifically for them. How did this happen?

Someone9339

Dear god... Bless her heart

abruzzo79

She definitely deserves some praise for not abusing that man's staff.

ambulanz_driver420

she definitely hasn’t contacted the restaurant and has no idea who you are or where you are

AutoModerator

I know- I no longer interested. Please stop contacting me now. I will contact attorney general if you do not stop. Thsnks *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. ambulanz_driver420

*sigh* good bot

ambulanz_driver420

we do not deserve marguerite

sierrabravo1984

Reminds me of Amazon questions and reviews. Is this a good product? "I don't know why you're asking me, I'm 74 and never owned it or heard of this product!"

shawarma_law

To be fair, it’s incredibly annoying when people complain online using this imperative voice, “telling” some group of people to do something. It gets over used, and for once I’d like to see one of these people explain who it was that does that, how often they do it, etc.

douko

>and for once I’d like to see one of these people explain who it was I mean, isn't it self-defining? "I need people who (x) to stop and..." is very obviously directed toward people who (x). If you don't, it's not directed at you.

VoilaVoilaWashington

Not just that - it's directed at anyone who has done it *or might do it in the future.* If it's happening often enough to talk about it on social media, chances are good new people are doing it on an ongoing basis.

whatnameisntusedalre

They’re wanting names of the people who do x to be named.

douko

I DEMAND a list of full names, addresses & hi-res color headshots of people who were mean to a hostess in Bozeman, Montana! They complained about it on twitter, after all!!!!

allo12

The fact that some people get confuse proves that it is not clear enough.

douko

Sometimes the missed pass is the receiver's fault, not the quarterback's, you know?

allo12

Welp! I know nothing about sport! But I get your point : you think it's the old lady's fault for not understanding. I think different. I think we should try to communicate so most people understand us, and since this is a commun mistake, we should try to avoid it.

some1lovesu

What do you want the guy to do? Post a list if names of people that have done it? Only dm it to people that may do it? Like, I don't see any real solution to make this more clear, if you don't understand how tweets work thats kinda on you at this point.

allo12

So I will give you an example : we noticed this situation blablabla, for those of you who are concerned, you should know blablabla!

floatinround22

I think dropping a bunch of blablablas would be even more confusing

AutoModerator

You still have a lot to be proud of /u/allo12! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/oldpeoplefacebook) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Tarot_frank

Proud of you allo12 ALso where is my son Jerry

allo12

I don't understand.. is it a refference? Should I Google it?

Squid_Lips

How to you sign up for some lasagna

Tarot_frank

Jerry

VikingTeddy

Bless your cotton socks.

Tarot_frank

have you seen

Tarot_frank

him

VikingTeddy

It's not a common mistake though. And the communication is very clear. It 100% is on the person reading to understand it. We can't cater to the unfortunate individuals who refuse, or are unable to keep up with the rest.

allo12

I am surprise you say it is not a commun mistake since there are some many posts on this subreddit with same mistake. IRL I have seen many old people and also people that are mentaly challenged. And if I am honest it did happened to me to : someone talk and I think they are talking about me and say "if the hat fits.." I believe direct communication is more efficient so people know exactlly : are they talking about me or not?

AutoModerator

VoilaVoilaWashington

So "the lady who yelled at Steve on Tuesday at 9 am should please not do it again. This is specifically directed at people who have already done this. If you have not, feel free to do so until we send you a direct message."? It's a perfectly acceptable way to communicate to the masses. "All y'all, don't call my staff names." It's not about a specific person, it's about the general public who do it often enough that a warning is needed.

CommitteeOfTheHole

Nice but telling me, a Redditor, 7 hours later is insulting

Philip_J_Frylock

I didn't tell you anything I only just now saw this post

CommitteeOfTheHole

I will call attorney general

Crafty_Potatoes

It's been 5 hours where is the general????

CommitteeOfTheHole

i did not request crafty POTATO remove me from your list!!! remove this from my page!!!

borgchupacabras

NEXT!

McBurger

You are a relic of the past, old man. Your comment is over 8 hours old and thus irrelevant by today’s standards.

lsirius

My mom said to me yesterday “I’m going to have to unfriend x she sends me too much stuff” and turns out she was talking about x posting. She was posting on her own timeline and my mother thought it was for her 🤦🏻‍♀️

zachar3

Tbf we've all muted that friend who posts too much

ClausTrophobix

yes, ill have to block you too, i just looked at your comment history and its just too much. sorry but i dont have the time to read all that!!

FellafromPrague

a.k.a 15yro me. Glad I'm not on FB anymore, and keeping the account around online because of messenger.

VikingTeddy

I'm so glad I dodged the social media bullet. I'd never live down the crap I spouted as a teen.

Kelter82

My mom was difficult to teach. No mom, this is your wall, it's like a poster board but with your name on it. This is the main feed, it updates as new things are added to various poster boards. This is messenger, so it's one-to-one, like mail. For two years it was constantly "[my naaaaame....?] Is this where everyone can see it or... Who is this person talking to? If I reply here can everyone see it? The privacy settiings showed up and it was a whole new ball game

Whatever0788

My mom straight up gave up on Facebook. I was lucky.

EL_DIABLOW

They aren’t called the most selfish generation for nothing.

ReallTrolll

Why are you attacking me? I didn't ask for this. /s

themcryt

I wonder if these people think books are written just for them.

waddleship

Many of them are *really* old, and were raised with rotary telephones, typewriters, and pre-Internet Apple IIs. Communication was very different back then. It was two-way, a lot slower, and not the "digitized town square" we have now. Seniors just don't understand it, and they won't. Neuroplasticity is hard to come by at that age, and they still have access the two-way communication they've come to lean on, in that telephones and hand-written letters are still around. The problem is, they apply that old-school knowledge base to something like Twitter, and they fundamentally don't understand how every post/message isn't directed at them. And then you have... this.

floatinround22

Plenty of seniors understand it just fine. I've noticed that most of the ones who don't weren't very bright when they were younger either

AutoModerator

thepelicansbriefs

>Many of them are *really* old, and were raised with rotary telephones, typewriters, and pre-Internet Apple IIs. You're describing 40 year olds. 🦖

Cianalas

I was gonna say...

Relax007

Fuck. I AM forty and I didn’t catch that. Look at my old ass sitting here like “Yeah! Those ancient, pre-internet, rotary phone assholes!” Meanwhile, we had a fancy “gold plated” rotary phone in our dining room and I remember being excited to get a word processor…

TorontoNerd84

My dad had an Epson "laptop" in 1986 that had what was basically a calculator type screen on the top with a huge ass keyboard the size of a typewriter underneath. I think it had a handle to make it easy to carry around. My parents have a photo of me standing beside it as a two year old, clearly fascinated by it.

ghazi364

Here's the thing, that excuse was valid 20 years ago. The people who are 60s/70s now should have been young and savvy enough to have kept with the times. 80+ it's sort of underarandable but that should be a very small minority. Just because the internet is somewhat new to them doesn't mean it hasn't been around and widely used for the last quarter century.

Major-Weenus

STOP MESSAGING MY FACEBOOK. SORRY FOR CAPS I CANT SEE WLL.

fuckdirectv

Social media. It's a narcissism factory that traps people in a perpetual cycle of an exaggerated sense of self-importance.

Plantain1979

The internet does actually show things specifically for you. Unless you are going to Wikipedia, an algorithm is deciding what pops up on eBay, reddit, FB, Insta, TikTok, even news sites are targeted.

Tostecles

Correct, but not the point

TheRealCactusTiddy

My grandpa will often comment stuff like “happy birthday” on someone’s months-old profile pic or cover photo as if it just happened.

Tarot_frank

happyb irthday

Crocopotamus

Nice, but showing this post to me, a senior, hours later is insulting.

Bioshock_Jock

My nephew Jerf likes set my TV Guides on fire and HE NEEDS TO STOP!

peter_the_martian

Why didn’t you private message all the seniors? I’m very salted right now over this you should be ashamed

Groinificator

I like how they add they're a senior, as if that was relevant in some way.

werak

It was relevant to us

Groinificator

Hmm... true.

Pbferg

They’re proud of that status.

Tarot_frank

I mean, humor of the post aside, being a senior in a pandemic seems relevant enough here, given they face an increased chance of hospitalization and/or death due to their old age. It's why they were among the first to get vaccinated, no?

Groinificator

You do have a point though.

xXSpookyXx

Nice but telling me, a senior, that there’s a pandemic going on two years late is insulting

Tarot_frank

nice but señor, insulting

Groinificator

Wouldn't telling anyone an hour late be insulting, though?

CaptainCallus

As if it wasn’t obvious already

GzusPhuckinKryst

Since it was posted on a volunteer fire department account I wouldn't be surprised if this person was a senior member of the department and doesn't understand how Facebook works. To volunteer firefighters seniority is everything to them

CraftEmpire

They did it to the man in the chair Ricky That’s what I think of when they say me, a senior

squeamish

If the "an hour later" comment was two hours after the post, that means the post was only an hour before the event ended, which is kind of ridiculous.

mattpsu79

Not that it matters but…but it was closer to 90 minutes and the event had been advertised days earlier by the town…so this was really just a friendly reminder from the FD who was assisting. And it doesn’t change the fact that she took it as a personal slight targeted directly at her from the FD that she didn’t see the post earlier.

HotShitBurrito

I am an admin for multiple social platforms for a government office. The primary demographic of people who actually engage in the comments are middle-aged to boomer aged women. They all think our posts are speaking to them personally. The amount of times we have put up something that's referencing a specific area it rarely fails for one of them to say something like "I don't know why you're telling me this, I don't live in *area*". They really think the entire world revolves around and caters to them.

OminousRai

I remember receiving a notification from Twitter saying something along the lines of "please stop using my pictures as profile pictures," which confused me because the notification didn't say that it was a tweet: it had the person's username and the tweet. I open the notification and see that it's a tweet from a person I don't even know, much less follow. I don't know why Twitter felt the need to send that to me, but it did.

penchantforbuggery

I run public events and people constantly complain that they found out too late.

Jordan292

Just don’t tell seniors hour later

Melishas21

This is probably the funniest thing i've ever seen

GiraffeInClownMakeup

Same vibes as “GUYS STOP, I’M LITERALLY A MINOR”

According-Ocelot9372

When I was 5 I thought my TV didn't play my show until I turned on the TV. She is like that.
